SRP is done!

After countless hours of researching, tying, making tables and referncing the hole report is done and handed in! Now i have to work on my poster. Visually, I have enough photographs related to my experiment that I think will be interesting. I'm thinking of having pictures of fruits on the outer layer with the big heading in top center. I'm thinking of using a white cardboard as it always just looks best against any other colour.

I'm thinking of starting the poster during the school holidays!

Day #15: Final Day

Today is the last day of my SRP. I will compare my observations of day #1 - day #15 and post it soon. Here is day #15 photos and observations:

Banana (not packaged):

• Smell - overwhelming and powering.
• Colour - Mostly brown, golden yellow.
• Hardness - Very soft.
• Other - Just briefly touching it leaves my hands with a banana scent (not nice!)

Banana (brown paper bags)

• Smell - Noticeable. A little overwhelming.
• Colour - Light yellow with round brown spots in some places.
• Hardness - soft. Not nearly as soft as the banana that isn't packaged.
• Other - The one without holes has noticeably (although not seen in photos, I will take another photo of it and post it soon that shows the difference) less brown spots as the one with holes.

Banana (plastic bag)

• Smell - Overwhelming
• Colour - Half yellow, half brown.
• Hardness - soft. Softer than the ones in the paper bag but not as soft as the one without any packaging.
• Other - none

Apple (plastic bag and without packaging)

• Smell - Not noticeable. Healthy apple smell.
• Colour - Green.
• Hardness - hard, but softer than day #1
• Other - Brown patch appearing towards the core of the apple. The one without packaging is noticeably larger than any other apples. The one without packaging also has a little brown bump (only slightly) on the side.

Apple (brown paper bags)

• Smell - Can hardly smell it.
• Colour - Green
• Hardness - hard.
• Other - the one with holes has a little brown patch at the core of the apple whereas the one without doesn't.

Day #13 and #14

So far, the banana in the brown paper bag has the least brown spots. It is also the lightest banana. The smell is now OVERWHELMING. When I opened the brown paper bags to take photos of it, I could smell it almost immediately. Too bad I'm not so fond of banana smells :(.

I've also researched on apples going bad. I came across this photo:

And I noticed that in the core of the apples, there is this brown spot. This means that whichever apple have the largest brown spot towards the core (or has other brown spots) it means that type of packaging was the least effective.

Although I didn't take a picture of it, the one without any packaging seems to be (so far) the one that has the largest brown spot. The ones in the paper bags don't really have one yet.

Day #11 and #12

The smell is getting a little overwhelming and it's definitely getting softer. So far, I cannot tell the difference in appearance between the banana without packaging and the banana in the plastic bag.

The core of the apple is starting to turn brown. A sign of ripening? I hope so!

Day #9 and #10

The bananas have more brown spots; and there's really not much differences with the apples.

Day #7 & #8

This will be 15th May - 16th May. So I'm going to be finally up to date!

The apples aren't as green as it was in day #1. The brown patch that I have mentioned a few times on different days is getting bigger and more noticeable (gee, I have to find another word for 'noticeable' I've been using it alot!)

Wow and the bananas. When I opened the paper bags, wow the smell was just there. It wasn't overwhelming...yet! But it's definitely getting there!

The bananas have also gone softer. It's definitely squishier. Each banana have MANY brown spots, but I personally believe that the one without any bags have the most... we'll see!

So I'm finally up to date. Sorry Ms Zhang, for not posting for nearly a whole week, my internet has been up and down the whole week. I've decided to continue this experiment for one more week, but if I still can't determine which packaging is best for fruits, then I will continue it for 2 more weeks.

Day #5 and #6

Day #5

As you can probably tell, the bananas in the bags, doesn't have as much brown spots as the one without any bags.... interesting!! Also, the ones in the paper bag are clearly still green but the one in the plastic bag is a nice yellow colour. The smell of the bananas is getting more distinctive. But still not overwhelming.

The apples, I could not see much difference other than the one without any bags is starting to get even more brown towards the centre.

Day #6

For the apples, the one in the brown paper bag was noticeably greener than the rest. I'm not entirely sure at this stage what it means....

The bananas' smell is definitely becoming stronger and stronger each day. Each day there's been a really noticeable increase in the brown spots. However the one in the brown paper bag seems to have the least, with a few green patches...
